      <title>Real vs Nominal GDP</title>

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[<span style="color: #404040">I know what both of these are (Real and Nominal GDP) but I&#039;m trying to figure out how the ABS got these figures.  I know nominal GDP is adjusted for inflation so I&#039;ve included the CPI Change and the CPI deflator below.  I don&#039;t suppose anyone can show me how the ABS got their real GDP figure below? Often when reading the media like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com.au/australia-retail-sales-december-2017-2018-2" target="_blank" class="externalLink" rel="nofollow">Australian retail spending for the Christmas was far weaker than many were expecting</a> I notice that sometimes the data they present is different to the data ABS provides even though they claim t present ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) data.<br />

I understand that negative gearing was removed for roughly a 2 year period back in the 1980s, by Paul Keating when Treasurer.  In fact, I understand it wasn’t removed, just modified so that income against which expenses could be offset was ringfenced to just the income from the geared asset.       <content:encoded><![CDATA[So I regularly watch Japanese bonds and of late there seems to be a bit of selling in the long end.<br />
<br />
Of course with the BOJ heavily into asset purchases bond rates potentially don&#039;t reflect the true reality, but no doubt the market would be edgy about the continued central bank asset purchases and the governments inability to get their budget under control which is why the AUD/YEN movements of late look really interesting...<br />
