    @austing

I actually watched this Switzer episode a few years back ... the second guy was Peter Thornhill.

Ever spent a 9 month sojourn overseas?

No I thought that to but it's a different guy after reading more about this in another article awhile back. I don't believe that his portfolio went from $5 mil to only $4 Mil during the GFC. More likely dropped 40 - 50%.

Fair enough ... though the stories are remarkably similar.

This should also probably read AFTER the GFC hit he got a 10% yield on a lower capital base

I can't find the damn article. Maybe I was wrong. It certainly sounds like Peter.

    1)

    2) Video | Switzer Daily

Linked above are the two interviews I have seen.

At approximately the 6 mins 50 seconds mark of the second one, Thornhill compares buying CBA shares to a $1.8m dollar property purchase, during the nadir of the GFC.

A North Maleny lunch on you if you adjudge it in my favour!

Yes, I remember those. Ok I give in. It has to be Peter the earlier article was referring to. I'll go all out to provide a lunch of peanut butter sandwitches and Spring water from the bore:D.

I'll post this on the Thornhill thread, they are excellent. Thank you.

Haha ... spring water from the bore???? I don't drink alcohol, but even I as a teetotaler was hopeful of a sample of the home brew!

I did think it was Thornhill all along because I watched the interview last week or so (again) and felt awfully familiar. From memory, PT said something along the lines of you would not be human if you saw 7 figures disappearing from your portfolio.

But good stuff from Peter Switzer.

The water from our bore has been tested. The purist of mineral water with less salt than the town water.

Ok I'm prepared to offer some home brew only because I know you ( as a teetotaller) won't drink much:D.

Stocks have a much lower PITA (pain in the ass) factor than direct property investing, however, leverage is the key with up to 95% leverage or LVR permitted against the property. Can get a margin loan for shares, however, usually need property to secure against or existing shares.

    You are probably correct.

As I haven't read the AFR article (paywall) I don't know exactly what was written but it doesn't appear it was complementary.

Nor can I remember the last time I read, or listened to, anything he - or other fundies - wrote in the media or appeared in some sort of podcast. I suspect a lot of the blah, blah is due to the hosts of shows needing to fill a void in order to justify their existence. However, it probably serves a purpose and my view is warped. I prefer not to hear anything from the fundies except twice a year. Go and do the job you are paid to do and come back and tell me what you've done. Send me money as well please.

Only got that Switzer fund and Contango via a web search. Not my cup of tea.
