Surviving the Coronavirus meltdown with ETFs & LICs - ETF Watch

    ( DYOR )

now i added to an active style LIC during this saga

but did notice some of the smart beta ETFs i hold ( and bought in 2011 ) are at levels i should seriously consider topping up , and i noticed i missed an opportunity to add to 2 passive style LICs i hold ( just too many places to watch , despite the overall high values in the current markets )

( for instance do you top up on WBC or , say BKI or VHY )

( PS in the choice above , i sat on the sidelines ... so far )

keep alert there are some fair prices hiding out there

You're right Twisted. I'm eagerly looking for more involvement in the market today.
Just wondering whether i should jump in before or after ScoMo speaks

i can't see how Sco-Mo can shift the dial much

and the worst of this saga is yet to come ( wait until most of US and Europe is in lock-down there will be nobody buying goodies )

but that doesn't mean there won't be 'fair ' prices

and the BIG recession might not actually happen until NEXT year

so take care ( don't buy too heavily )

    cheers

    accident-prone ( imo)

i have been burnt by other gold producers who have a similar track record

one or twice , that stuff happens , but some of miners seem to have one almost every year ( you almost wonder if they are excuses to miss guidance .)

if you buy them cheap enough to sit out a few bad years , then good luck

i seem to pick the unlucky ones , or the guys who can run a mine at a profit even when gold is under $US 1300 an oz.

PS i buy gold miners hoping they can pay a dividend when the rest of the economy is a mess

only a few can make a profit every year ( gold mines have a limited lifespan , so they have to buy the next payday ahead of time )

in case you think i am harsh , ( on SBM ) i had one profitable adventure in NCM and won't go back there for similar reasons

    ( DYOR )

    cheers

Got in at 2.12 for a small parcel, wanted a bit of diversity in my portfolio. I'm happy to sit and wait

    to give you an example

i hold NST , EVN , OZL ( more of a copper player now ) and AGG all without investment cash risk , so they can pay ( seemingly ) miserable divs because they don't have to pay interest on the cash invested .

so as long as those 4 pay a div. most years i am happy and i can crystallize the profit any time i don't like a turn they make .

gold can be a hard expensive game

    take care

if you get the exact bottom you run the risk of a part-filled order ( that never gets filled )

that has happened to me several times and if you only get , sa , four shares after brokerage that is no bargain ,

so don't feel too bad , you can always buy some more cheaper ( later )

today i bought WBC @ $18 , the buying went straight through $8 like a hot knife through butter

as long as you thought your buying price was 'fair ' at the time ,

it is a steep learning curve ( and i am still learning nine years later )

    good luck with them

    cheers
