Thanks Coopranos.... I will get him to do some research on Index Funds before he jumps in again but as you said, the lessons learned will be
    invaluable.

    Regards.

Hi ...with an Index Fund ... would getting in the SPDR ASX 200 make
better sense with a monthly savings plan ?

Coopranos, what kind of MER are you referring to when you say 'cheap
    index fund' ... less than 1% ?

Appreciate your patience with me and thanks for your inputs.

Vanguard Index Aus Shares Fund has MER of .75% I believe.
Also mentioned are the SPDR shares which are cheap.
Over the long term a good consistent low cost managed fund should beat the typical follow-the-leader approach that many people have.

$1790 isn't that much, so I don't think it matters what you do. I suggest just starting up another fund and making sure you're more diversified instead of being solely exposed to property. There's nothing wrong with property, just don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Check out iShares as well. Index ETFs have low MERs.

A lot of people sneer at me when I tell them to diversify, throwing words like "deworsify" at me. But when their net worth plummets 40 per cent in one day, they become silent.

    Conference Call

Thank Amelia for setting up the telephone number to call in. Unfortunately no one called in other than Amelia and myself.
So at this stage, unless people show serious interest and are willing to talk and meet, I will not pursue this any further.

    Thanks

    Hi CherryPro,

You should look into multi-managed funds...

    Cheers,

Hi again .... I pulled out on Friday .. funds down to 40% of original value and thought recovery in the medium term was near impossible.

Will look at ETFs but for now ... think you can't go past BankWest's telenet
saver at 7.75% (from 17 March).
