Big housing boost for Pt Augusta - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Port Augusta Council has approved what it claims is one of South Australia's largest housing developments in anticipation of a 50 per cent growth in population to cater for the expected mining boom.

The development near the city's airport will have about 3,000 new homes.

City manager John Stephens says it is the first step in ensuring the city is well positioned ahead of the boom.

"Ultimately if everything goes to plan and all the proper approval and studies and information is at hand and works out then we could probably see one of the state's largest residential estates emerging just adjacent to Port Augusta airport," he said.
