    Hi,
Does anyone have any recommendations for Brisbane based accountants who specialise in trust advise/set up? I am new to the finance world and I would like to set up the right structure now before I begin investing (index funds/LICs) with the aim to join forces with my partner in the future. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. If they are based on your own experience even better.

    Many Thanks,
    Jello

This is legal advice so you should seek out a lawyer. Try Certus Legal Group | Certainty, Service And Value
Accountants cannot legally set up trusts, but many do by merely purchasing a deed drawn up by a lawyer. They cannot explain it or amend it, or advise on who should play which roles.

    Terry,

Thank you for responding, I have been reading your posts and find the information you share on the forums to be very useful.

Thanks for the recommendation and pointing me in the right direction. I was not aware that the deed procedure was as you stated above. I will take a look at Certus and continue researching and reading through the forums.

    Regards,
    Jello

    Hi Terry,

I visited Certus in Brisbane. They were very helpful and advised they could set up a trust deed and company (for corporate trustee) for $1650 incl. GST. Fee covers general advice although the solicitor mentioned it was pretty straight forward and most information is gathered via a form. He asked for a list of my objectives and stated from that they can ensure the trust suits my needs. All sounds reasonable to me however if you see any red flags reading this I'd appreciate it if you could please let me know.

I've sketched a trust structure and attached it here (1 page). I will be looking to set up the discretionary trust and company for Phase 1 - this is to get the ball rolling while I research more for potential use of a Bucket Company for Phase 2. I'll let Certus know my intentions so that the Bucket Company will be an eligible beneficiary in future. If you have any time I'd be grateful if you would be able to take a quick look (of course no pressure).

My partner and I are both in income tax brackets > 30%, no kids yet. We have pensioner parents and a lot of low income siblings that I was thinking could be beneficiaries but I am hesitant until I read more about how this all works.

    Many Thanks,
    Jello
