How We Became the United States of France

We've always dismissed the French as exquisitely fed wards of their welfare state.
They work, what, 27 hours in a good week, have 19 holidays a month, go on strike for two days and enjoy a glass of wine every day with lunch — except for the 25% of the population that works for the government, who have an even sweeter deal.
They retire before their kids finish high school, and they don't have to save for a $45,000-a-year college tuition because college is free.............

    Nice summary there.
I have always wondered how the French survive when a lot of them are doing so little work...:)
I am dealing with France on occasions and when I want to contact someone there he is either on leave, it's his day off, they have a public holiday, the factory is closed for summer etc etc....

    Cheers

They must do something right. Maybe they are very efficient?;)
Their living standard is not impressive.
Approx. 70% of them earn a bit above 1000 Euro per month (1500 euro is considered a good wage).
