I sincerely hope they don't. For the sake of the country.

Of course it was successful at getting people to enter the market - the government is essentially giving away free money. That doesn't make it a "successful" program that is in the country's best interests.

This grant does nothing to SUSTAINABLY stimulate the economy!

I think most people are now resigned to the fact that this recessionary period isn't going to short or shallow - so why can't we stop with the short term band aids and get on with long term infrastructure developments which will actually STIMULATE the economy in the medium and long term!

Not good politics. People will kick and scream at the government if it does not renew the grant scheme.

So let them scream. FHB's have never had it so good!

It's an artificial boost which keeps some industries in employment for the short term- think REA's, building inspectors, brokers, conveyancers etc however at the end of the day the money has to come from somewhere- and we will pay for it in the future.

Just because kids kick and scream that they want lollies for dinner doesn't mean parents let them get what they want.

Those in positions of power need to be "responsible" for best interests of those parties which they are "responsible" for. Sometimes that means some tough love.
