Does any body know of a good free website that tracks the international stockmarkets so we can see how other markets are going or how other markets have fared over night etc...

    Hang seng
    Ftse
    Dow
    Nasdaq
    nikkei

Something that gives live info rather than yesterdays results.

    Free:
Yahoo Finance (The best free source, gets better almost every day)
    Individual exchange websites
    Financial Times
    CNN Money
    AFR Access/Publication/Website
    Bourse Data
    Your broker (Commsec, etc)

If you have access (employer, uni, etc):
    Bloomberg
    DataStream
    Reuters
    + many more

I still haven't found a single good page for a snapshot of the global indices, but Bourse Data has a good one without a few of the majors (FTSE, DAX, SSE). Most don't have Shanghai (SSE Composite), some (like AFR) don't have the Nikkei 225 or 300 and others focus on Europe or US but often not both. But you can get all of that data from separate pages on Yahoo. You can also download data as CSV.

However, if you do have access to a DataStream or Bloomberg terminal, they offer much more flexibility and much more data.

Say I want to find out how the dow is travelling at 4am our time or how the Hang Seng is going at 12 midday our time.

I've found sites like www.londonstockexchange.co.uk or NYSE Group, Inc. but havn't found any thing on the Hang Seng in english.

I was wondering if there was as site that had them all. I dont want to know the ins and outs of a ducks ..... just the basic close data or current trade level of their main index. All Ords equivalent etc...

My online broke only give Australian market data.

Yahoo Finance is your ticket then... I should have posted links.

    China:
Shaghai Comp 000001.SS: Summary for SSE Composite Index - Yahoo! Finance
Hang Seng ^HSI: Summary for HANG SENG INDEX - Yahoo! Finance

    Japan:
Nikkei 225 ^N225: Summary for NIKKEI 225 - Yahoo! Finance

And you can find the rest through the symbol lookup tool...

Here's the big Bourse Data page with LOTS of stuff on the one page:

    BIGCHARTS

    I use Big Charts

Is about 15min delayed quotes but lets you see the chart from years/months/days/ to 5min time bars. Can look up most global market shares if a 'prefix' is added to the ticker symbol. It is US based so the prefix isn't required to US stocks.

    eg.
    'INTC' = Intel Corp
    'AU:BHP' = BHP Billiton (Aust)
    'DJIA' = Dow Jones Index

Here is a page with most of the US indices on it INDEX LIST

There is the ability to search for the index you want to see the chart of....

    Regards,
    DaveJ
