one thing I don't get

    At the time of writing, Commsec shows a buy order for CBA for 56.000 for instance, and the highest Sell order of 53.700

    In this case, why isn't the buy order fulfilled at 53.700 ? Obviously the buyer is happy to pay up to 56.00 a share, wouldn't you be happy to get it at 53.7 instead ?

    Obviously, i understand the buy/sell prices need to match for a trade, but, how come ?

    It's possible that the trade just hasn't been completed yet ... with a buy price higher than the sell price, the sale will proceed in due course.
