I am selling a propoerty and been asked by the buyers solicitor to pay them a release fee. They say it is a registration fee on the release of the current mortgage I have with my bank. The fee payable to the Dept of Natural Resources to remove this release from the title.

Is this a cost I pay? and if so are they charging me because they must have originally paid and are now reimbursing?

    Thanks,
    Billy

It's hard to tell, the release fees I know are paid to the lender.
Why don't you ask your conveyancer/solicitor?
    You are paying him anyway

    Removal Fee

Its probably a Land Titles Office fee for the discharge of your mortgage from the current title. Check with the LTO Office.:)

    Release Fee

Probably the Lands Office or bank, I'll call them both

    Thanks,
