Could anyone recommend a good solicitor in Melbourne for setting up a trust?

Now, I realise that pretty much any solicitor could set one up, but from what I've read (including on this forum) all trust deeds are not created equal. I can fill in all the paperwork myself, so I don't need someone to do that. I need someone who really knows what they're talking doing, can give me valuable advice and can tell a good trust deed from a bad one.

Don't know about a good solicitor in Melbourne to set up a trust. However, we set up our (hybrid discretionary) family trust through our accountant in Melbourne, Dale Gatherum-Goss. He bought the deeds through Chris Batten's company, the Macquarie Groups - Chris Batten is a well known solicitor in Sydney specialising in trusts.

I know on this forum, Nigel Ward is a solicitor. So, he may have other comments and advices.

Thanks very much, Nigel. I'll give them a call.

Just looked up their address and they're quite a long way from me. I'll still go if there aren't any other recommendations, but if anybody knows a solicitor in the CBD, Caulfield area or close to either of those that would be even better. :)

You don't really need to meet in person, as though Dale's firm is out of Melbourne, he knows his stuff when it comes to trusts and everything can be done by phone, fax and email these days anyway.

He set up all of mine and the distance wasn't a problem for this type of setup.

I see your point and yes, maybe distance is not as much of an issue as I first thought. I'd still like to meet in person sometimes, though, especially for the initial consultation.

I might give Dale Gatherum-Goss a miss and just go with the firm Nigel suggested. His book on trusts, although somewhat helpful, didn't exactly encourage me to become a client of his. Let's just say I'm not planning to tax-deduct any sex toys.
