    Hi all,

I've read that income from ETF dividends should be treated as trust income and therefore included in the FY in which that income is earnt, rather than when it's paid. If this is correct, then the dividends paid in July 2018 (but earnt before 30 June, 2018) would have to be included in the 2017-18 tax return.

However, I've received my FY Summary from CommSec outlining my franked & unfranked dividends and franking credits for 2017-18. It includes dividends paid in January 2018 and April 2018. It does not include the dividends paid in July 2018.

    My 2 questions are:
    (1) Is income from ETF dividends treated as income from a trust? (I've noted that normal dividend income is included in the regular part of the Tax Return, whereas trust income goes into Supplementary part)
    (2) Should dividends paid for VAS & VGS in July be included in my tax return for 2017-18 or 2018-19.

    twisted strategies likes this.
