    Hi Tropo,
Thanks for that pointer unfortunately its not what I'm looking for. Its very indicator based e.g.MACD, Moving average and so on from what I can tell (unfortunately they don't have a test drive version) and looks for backtesting based on indicator models. Am not a fan of indicators though I appreciate how popular they are. Will keep looking have heard TradeStation is pretty good so I'll check that out. Do you know anything about TradeStation??
    Cheers :)

Further to my last I should have mentioned that I use MetaStock (an earlier version) but only the charting aspect. Guess I wasted my money as I could have got a charting pacage off the web for zip but I didn't know then (bout 8 years ago) what I know now.
    Cheers

I find the ASX charts work fine for me and directshares has a decent portfolio function. I find I spend 6 hours a day in front of the computer minus breaks and lunches not all of it active trading. 30% return in a bull market would be an average result for active trading.

Appreciate your input, it is really good!

    Re Metastock:
I am downloading free market prices from here:
    Download ASX Data

however, when i download them and extract them, i then try to use "The Downloader" in Metastock to convert them from ascii to metastock format, it gets the first couple of years no worries but then spits errors out after that. I have no idea how to combine all the different years that i download, so that i can open a security and see the full history, rather than just the year that is in that particular folder.
Not sure if you can offer any suggestions, but would be mighty helpful if you can!

Hobart is nice :) I live in Austins Ferry. I generally ride a push bike to the city, but sometimes you will see the motorbike in my avatar pic, parked in Elizabeth street, opposite the park.

That is awesome mate. What is the weatherlike in Austins Ferry?
Do you ride the push bike for fitness, pleasure, or a bit of both?
Any other random facts you would care to share?!

    Coopranos,
In case of data I never used Downloader. I had a paid data which worked very well.
If you are serious about trading you need CLEAN good data from reputable provider (datahq, paritec, just data, bodhi etc).
I downloaded my data from DTHQ when I was trading Stock Market.
I am afraid, I cannot help you with Metastock downloader...

If you combine bull and bear market together, 30% may not look that bad after all :p

Just checking with my dividend stripping hero his current return for the financial year is 56% I do tend to not stick my neck out as far as he does so lower returns are fine. CFD's when set up will let me profit from bull and bear markets.

In case of CFD or FX, market is always bullish (no matter what way).
That is the beauty of it.:D
