For Many, Jobless Benefits Ending And Not Much Chance Of Finding Work -- Courant.com
Considering that the US recession has now been running for about 18 months the number of unemployed that are coming off benefits will definitely be on the rise.
The particularly worrying thing is that the rate at which unemployment really started accelerating was April 2008, so many of those who lost their jobs in early 2008 will be starting to come off their benefits soon, which I think will make for a very interest interesting mid year crisis considering US unemployment at the moment is not just growing but the rate of unemployment growth is still accelerating suggesting we may still be some time away from finding a bottom when it comes to unemployment.
With the US economy already stretched to the breaking point you have to wonder if the government realistically has the capacity to further extend unemployment benefits through the duration of this crisis... if they don't then you have to wonder whether China's potential for social unrest outweighs the US's?
